Colegio San Lorenzo is a private school with a full time school schedule, it was founded on July 31st 1990, and dependent on Servicios Educacionales de Copiapó S.A., with the purpose of serving students, especially to those whose workers' children belong to Mining Companies associated to Kinross and FreePort - McMoran Copper & Gold, represented by SEDCOP S.A. and also to private families from Copiapó city, in the Atacama Region.

The school started its classes on March 1991 with 216 students, all of them attending to primary school, and taken classes at the Atacama University facilities.

Nowadays, 2014 the school has 745 students, distributed between Kinder and 12th grade, in an area of 5 hectares; with its own infrastructure, and actually it is promoting a new institution Project named Colegio San Lorenzo 2015.

At present, the school is guided by Headmaster Mr. Isidoro Juan Zambrano Soto, specialist educator in educational management, with known development in Chile.

Colegio San Lorenzo is an educational institution that contributes to the total student's development, which is favoured through a learning process that develops and promotes the self-confidence, self esteem, self concept, acquisition of knowledge and creativity. The students are stimulated to be responsible and independent citizens, respectful of democracy, environment and all universal values.

The school philosophy, objectives and programs are included on the basis that understand, respect and stimulate individual differences, emphasize the foundations which students can achieve University education level or professional careers that have direct relation with students' vocation, talent and interests, and where Sport, English and international area are privileged.

The pedagogical line is based on a personalized education that prepares student to face the fast social, cultural, scientific and technological changes, respecting individual differences and encouraging learning with a tutorial program and differentiated evaluation.

Finally, Colegio San Lorenzo emphasizes Human-Christian Values with a plural and ecumenical view.
